Arthur Waldron Ackerman, Jr. (Art) was born July 11, 1925 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Arthur Waldron and Edith Ackerman. Following graduation from Cooley High School in Detroit in June 1943, Art went on active duty in the U.S. Navy’s Aviation Training Program. He received his Naval Aviator wings and officer commission as Ensign on September 26, 1945. Arthur attended University of Michigan where he received Bachelor Science-Engineering and Master-Business Administration degrees.

Art married Carolyn Gordon June 12, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. During World War II and until their marriage, Carolyn worked for the U.S. War Department in various clerical positions. Arthur began his career with Ernst & Ernst in management services then transferred to audit staff receiving his CPA status in 1956. In 1957 he was hired by Huck Manufacturing Company, a “fastening systems” manufacturer, becoming its President in 1978. In 1980 as a result of a merger he became Vice President of Federal Mogul Corporation. After retiring from Federal Mogul in 1983 and a short stint as President of Preece Inc. in California, Art and Carolyn moved to Carbondale, Colorado where three of their children were living.

In Colorado, Art joined his son-in-law, H.P. Hansen, in the development of Hawk Ridge, an up-scale residential project. Following the advice of Carolyn, he became a real estate broker and practiced as a Realtor for ten years. Rotary was one of Art’s main interests. He joined the Detroit Rotary Club in 1972, became a member of the Newport-Irvine Club in 1981 and since relocating to Colorado, he has started two Rotary Clubs in Carbondale. He is a Paul Harris Fellow +8. In 1988, Art became a disk-jockey at KDNK, Carbondale’s community radio station and has carried-on playing music from the “big band” jazz and swing era.

Art and Carolyn have enjoyed a wide variety of lifetime experiences, ranging from boating, tennis, world travel, skiing, golf, bicycling and most of all, being close to their family!
