About Us

Our club was founded in 2002 and was originally called Rotary Club of Aspen Glen.  We changed our name to Mount Sopris Rotary Club in 2011 when we moved our meetings to downtown Carbondale, Colorado.  We named the club Mt. Sopris because Carbondale is located near the base of that mountain.

Our club is small but we have taken on projects and succeeded in accomplishing these goals because every one of our members is committed to our community.  Raising the funds needed to create a child advocacy facility was a formidable task.  None the less, the club members took the plunge.   We used a lot of publicity, golf tournaments, charity theatrical presentation and numerous other fund raising events, and not a small amount of perspiration.  After securing generous assistance by many and additional contributions by Garfield County, ground was broken for construction on January 23, 2007.  The facility was built, furnished, and staffed by the end of the year.

The new facility, called the River Bridge Regional Center, is decidedly child friendly with downsized furniture, child-based murals on the walls, and an abundance of toys and books for children.  It also has a fully up-to-date medical examination room and rooms for the counselors and investigators to do their work with the child.  Because of the facility any child in distress from three counties is now interviewed only once, and in one place – an enormously better way to do the job!

We continue to support the River Bridge Regional Center as well as many other worthwhile groups.  If you are community minded and wish to have a good lunch with like minded professionals in an atmosphere of camaraderie and learning, we meet at noon every Thursday at White House Pizza, 801 Main Court, Carbondale, CO 81623 at the corner of 8th and Main.
